TRONGSA
The Royal Family's ancestral home at an altitude of
2280 m this town of Trongsa is spectacular. With traditional wooden slated
houses lining up the side of the hill this town is a wonderful place to visit.
History: The first King of Bhutan, Ugyen Wangchuck who
was the Penlop (honorary post of governor) of Trongsa and his son King Jigme
Wangchuck both ruled the kingdom from the ancient Trongsa Dzong. The position of
Trongsa Penlop is now normally held by the Crown Prince of Bhutan (Dasho Khesar
Namgyal Wangchuck).
